The Surprising Reason Why You Should Clean Your Air Ducts In The Fall
Posted on August 19, 2016 at 4:28 pm | Written by Green TStuffy, red noses and a permanent supply of tissues are staples for the unlucky folks with seasonal allergies. Seasonal allergies peak at different times during the year; the late summer/early fall season is often a prime time. During early fall, ragweed is the most common allergy-inducer. The effects of allergies are amplified with rainy, windy weather. Additionally, the wind spreads pollen particles rapidly and they infiltrate your home.
Consequently, this causes non-stop allergy symptoms for weeks to come, if your home isn’t properly cleaned. A crucial cleaning step to minimize allergies is air duct cleaning.
Because knowledge about air ducts has not been studied extensively yet, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cannot claim that air duct cleaning provides a health benefit. However, the EPA recommends that you have your air ducts cleaned if dust, debris, and particles are released in your home from the supply registers (think: a poof of dust). Additionally, they suggest that there is nothing detrimental about having your air ducts cleaned.
The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends having your air ducts cleaned every three to five years. It’s recommended to adjust this based on your personal needs, allergies, and what part of the country you are in. If you live in an especially windy area, not far from farmland you may be a candidate for more frequent cleanings to address the pollen buildup in your home.
A thorough air duct cleaning uses a negative air machine and rotary brush cabling system to remove dander and debris. This cleaning can remove many microscopic particles that cause increased allergy symptoms. Ideally, the business will follow guidelines set by NADCA which includes cleaning the supply and return air ducts, registers and grills, and sealing the access panel.
Air duct cleaning may help ease your allergy symptoms when they hit a peak during late summer/early fall. There are many other benefits to air duct cleaning including removing mold, pet dander, and construction dust. Find out if air duct cleaning is right for you and give Green T a call.
